Terms of Use
The emissions data and associated metadata has been made available via Climate TRACE under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), with the exception of external datasets listed below.
In general, this means that anyone is free to copy, modify and distribute Climate TRACE data in any format for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as you attribute it to Climate TRACE and indicate if you have made any changes. Please refer to the suggested citation format here.
However, this summary is for informational purposes only, and you are solely responsible for reading and understanding the terms of the CC BY 4.0.

The Climate TRACE dataset also includes some data reproduced from the following external sources, which are generally also open but may have different specific terms. Facility ownership information has been made available from a variety of sources, including primary sources such as company websites, secondary sources such as industry news articles, and aggregators such as PermID, OpenCorporates, and Wikipedia.

User Responsibilities
It is the sole responsibility of the user to review the terms and conditions for all the above sources prior to using the data. The Climate TRACE Coalition makes no claims or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or licensing terms for these datasets.
The emissions data has been made available via Climate TRACE to the public to support climate action and encourage further research in identifying emissions sources.
The models used to generate emissions data are continually evolving and are expected to be updated over time. Neither the Climate TRACE coalition nor its suppliers are responsible for any reliance thereon.
Accuracy & Limitations
The Climate TRACE coalition and its partners have endeavored to ensure that the information made available via Climate TRACE is accurate. However, such emissions data has been:
- Modeled using data from third-party sources that are either publicly available or available through licensing agreements, or
- Collected from publicly available sources.
The Climate TRACE coalition has no control over any aspects of such data, including its accuracy, timeliness, completeness or consistency.
Users are advised to:
- Exercise caution
- Evaluate the methodology, data sources, and limitations of the emissions data
- Contact the Climate TRACE coalition in case of questions or if errors are identified via the contact page.
The information is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty of any kind, whether implied or expressed, including, without limitation, any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Geographic Boundaries
All information regarding geographic boundaries, names, and regions shown on maps and in lists, tables, documents, and databases on Climate TRACE were taken directly from:

Global Administrative Areas (GADM) project (Version 4.1, released 16 July 2022) for Levels 0 to 2, with adaptations for technical usability:
- HKG (China, Hong Kong SAR) and MAC (China, Macao SAR) reported at Level 0
- Kosovo assigned ISO3 code
