Terms of Use

The emissions data and associated metadata has been made available via Climate TRACE under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), with the exception of the coal mining asset level data (please review the terms of use for the coal mining asset level data below). In general, this means that users are free to copy, modify and distribute Climate TRACE data in any format for any purpose including commercial use, with attribution to the Climate TRACE coalition. Please refer to the suggested citation format here.
Users are also required to indicate if they have made any changes to the original dataset. However, this summary is for informational purposes only, and you are solely responsible for reading and understanding the terms of the CC BY 4.0.
The Climate TRACE dataset has reproduced data from the following sources, and users are encouraged to review the terms and conditions on the websites of the respective organisations and contact them directly for any clarifications or questions:
- Country level emissions estimates for Other energy use, Road Transportation, Railways, Other transportation, Residential and commercial onsite fuel usage, Other onsite fuel usage, Solid fuel transformation, Other fossil fuel operations, Other manufacturing, Solid waste disposal, Biological treatment of solid waste, Incineration and open burning of waste, Wastewater treatment and discharge and Fluorinated gases have been made available from Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR): https://edgar.jrc.ec.europa.eu/
- Country level emissions estimates for Enteric fermentation, Manure management, Rice cultivation (in some geographies) and Other agricultural soil emissions have been made available from FAOSTAT: https://www.fao.org/faostat/en/#home
The emissions data has been made available via Climate TRACE to the public to support climate action, and encourage further research in identifying emissions sources. The models based on which emissions data were generated are continually evolving, and are expected to be updated over time and neither the Climate TRACE coalition nor its suppliers are responsible for any reliance thereon. The Climate TRACE coalition and its partners have endeavored to ensure that the information made available via Climate TRACE is accurate. However, such emissions data has been (1) modelled using data from third-party sources that are either publicly available or available through licensing agreements, or (2) collected from publicly available sources. The Climate TRACE coalition has no control over any aspects of such data, including its accuracy, timeliness, completeness or consistency. Users of the emissions data are advised to exercise caution and evaluate the methodology, data sources, and limitations of the emissions data. Users are encouraged to contact the Climate TRACE coalition in case of any questions, or if any errors are identified.
The information made available via Climate TRACE is on an “as is” and “as available” basis without any warranty of any kind, whether implied or expressed, including, without limitation, any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
The depiction and use of boundaries, geographic names and related data shown on maps and included in lists, tables, documents, and databases on this website is not warranted to be error free and does not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of Climate TRACE Coalition and its partners concerning the legal status of any country, area or territory or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its borders.
